| Champions made wait by Blayney Academy FC
Saturday seen the senior men of Blayney Academy FC play against champions in waiting Clones Town at Gortakeegan. “The Academy” has been putting in some great performances of late in the first division of the Monaghan Cavan league and were hopefully to upset Clones town’s celebrations.
The game got of to a flurry of activity but within the first thirty minutes clones went two goals up and seemed comfortable in the knowing that if the score stayed the same that they would be lifting the trophy at full time. The recent changes enforced on the Blayney Academy team due to injury, were taking time to settle into the game. As the second half approached the only senior soccer team in Castleblayney took up the challenge of getting back into the game with a barrage of shots onto the Clones goal. Kevin Mc Manus coming close on a few occasions it was his strike partner Francis Leonard who scored a wonder goal and this was followed up with a goal from midfielder Martin Mc Cabe. The game ended at two all with both teams unable to take their chances to win it in the final minutes. The “bubbly” was put back on ice and the league cup put back in the trophy cabinet for another week. It was a great result for the leagues newest team against the leagues oldest and most successful club. All the Blayney Academy FC team put in a great performance with a big crowd watching from the line. Training Tuesdays and Fridays contact John on 0879613180
