Queens University 0-13
Monaghan 0-09

On Saturday  afternoon in a fiery encounter in Clones  Queens University Belfast put a dampner on Eamonn Mc Enaneys first game as manager by beating Monaghan  0-13 to 0-9.

Both sides finished the game with 14 men. Monaghan's Francis Caulfield was sent off in the first half and Queen's substitute Joe Ireland was dismissed in the second period.

Cathal O’Rourke’s side faced a tough challenge from Monaghan and had to battle hard to take the spoils here.

Monaghan led by 0-2 to 0-1 early on after points from Paul Finlay and Martin McElroy.

The Belfast  students then took over and went 0-5 to 0-3 ahead thanks to some well taken points from Niall McKenna and Charlie Kielt.

McKenna and Kielt were again among the scorers as the students built up a 0-10 to 0-4 lead within 14 minutes of restart.

Substitute Joe Ireland received a red card following a dangerous tackle towards the end of the game.

However even with his dismissal and goal chances for Eoghan Duffy and Keith Hill, Monaghan were unable to get back on terms and Queens held out for a well deserved victory.
