| The game at the Carlisle Grounds gives both sides a second chance or in Bray’s case a third one of Premier Division football for 2011 season. Monaghan United will be hoping that the many opportunities they spurned on Friday evening will not come back to haunt them. In the opening half of that game Bray started the better but United came steadily into it and would not have been flattered had they gone in at halftime with a two goal lead. Unfortunately injuries forced Mick Cooke to empty his bench and the strike threat of Bermingham, Brennan and O’ Connor was gone and United lost their rhythm for most of the second half. All three players are still doubtful and 72 hours is a very short time to recover from any ailment. On the positive side Monaghan reproduced some of their best performance of the season against Waterford in their previous outing and again this was on show against Bray so it looks like they have rediscovered their good form. They have had an excellent away record and will not be too troubled about having to travel to the Carlisle. The travelling support are at last getting behind them and it is expected that the biggest number of supporters will leave Monaghan for this game and they will augmented by the ex-pats in Dublin. Bray will be missing two of their most experienced players in keeper Matt Gregg and central defender Adam Mitchell. Being the 1stDivision side Monaghan United should be the underdogs in this game but this is not the case as they are the favourites to advance with many scribes of the game, hopefully they can reward that belief by winning and advancing to the Premier Division.
Manager Quotes “Our display on Friday night especially when we were at full strength proved that we were at least a match for Bray Wanderers. We had the chances particularity in the first half that should have left this second leg academic, unfortunately we failed to convert any of them. Three of the players that were most likely to get us on the scoreboard had to leave the field injured and their availability for this game is still doubtful. I know we have strength in debt but even that is threatened with the absence of three such influential players, so hopefully some of them will be available. I was satisfied with our overall performance on Friday and with a little bit of luck we could have won the game. The same type of performance with that portion of luck should be enough on this occasion. In the last three games the lads have continued to up their performance and hopefully they can maintain it for this last game of the season. Bray will know what to expect from us and I have no doubt but they will also endeavour to improve on that performance at Gortakeegan. A good show from us and I would be confident of promotion, it’s our last chance and I know we will have a good support to cheer us on”. |
