| Senior Championship – Blayney bowed out of the championship on Friday night after a disappointing 0-18 to 0-11 defeat to Clontibret. Blayney started better and led early on through Ciaran Hanratty and Marty McElroy but Clontibret had regained parity at three points apiece by the 15th minute. Blayney then spurned two glorious goal chances before Clontibret pulled clear with four quick points but a late rally with points from Hill (2f) and Malone gave Blayney renewed hope at halftime. Clontibret started the second half brightly and four points to a solitary Hill reply from a free saw them stretch the lead to five midway through the period. Two Blayney points from Hanratty and McElroy reduced the deficit as the game entered its final ten minutes but this was to be as good as it got for Blayney and Clontibret pulled clear to record the win. Team and Scorers: P McBennett, M Treanor, S McGeough, K Duffy, P Mallon, C Brady, D McArdle, G Ward, P Tavey, A Irwin, D Hughes, M McElroy (0-4, 2f), C Hanratty (0-2), D Malone (0-1), K Hill (0-4, 1 ’45, 2f).
Junior B – There was better news on Monday night as the Junior Bs completed a league and championship double when they defeated Clontibret in Inniskeen. As has been their trademark all year it was a blistering start that set up the win with a Niall Duffy goal in the second minute quickly followed by points from Damian Hughes and Duffy again. Clontibret got on the board with a point in the 10th minute but with Gareth Duffy and Kealan Duffy marshalling the defence superbly and Aidan Ward causing huge problems upfront Blayney stretched their lead with points from Niall Duffy (2), Damian Hughes, Aidan Ward and Gary Ward. Clontibret got the last two scores of the half to leave the scoreline 1-07 to 0-04. The second half was much more evenly contested with Blayney never able to put the result beyond doubt until an opportunist goal in the 21st minute by Aidan Ward after good work by Gerry Brady. The teams traded points after this to leave the final score Blayney 2-10 Clontibret 0-08.
