| FAI/FORD Cup Quarter Finals.
The long anticipated wait for the cup action nears an end as we look forward to our first clash with Premier Division side Sligo Rovers in the quarter finals of the FAI/Ford Cup on Saturday next. Kick off at the Showground’s is at 7.45.p.m. Locally there is a great interest in this game and hopefully that will translate into travelling support on the day and at the moment with a number of buses filled that looks positive. With two wins at the weekend United have to go into this game in a positive frame of mind. The manager Mick Cooke has insulated his side well from all the hype. United will have to step up a Division but they have already achieved this by defeating Bohemians and Dundalk. Apart from Paul Whelan and Ian Mc. Neill who are both Cup-tied the Manager Mick Cooke will have a strong panel to select from. With a good string of results topped off by two good wins in the league last week end Monaghan United are on tip of their form and even though they are playing a Premier Division side who are also going through a good vein of form United will go into this game with plenty of confidence and the tag underdog will be no handicap
Injuries :- none, Suspensions : none.

Managers Quotes “ This Saturday sees the first of our two consecutive clashes with Sligo Rovers and both are equally looked forward to around Monaghan, that was very evident after the match in the club house on Monday night. We will have to take the games one at a time. As a player I always liked the atmosphere of the Show grounds. I am expecting a good game; both Sligo Rovers and Monaghan United are the form teams of their respective leagues. Unfortunately Ian Mc. Neill and Paul Whelan are cup tied, Paul in particular I am sure would like to be running out against his former club. We will have a strong panel to select from. The two games give us a release from the pressures of the league. I was very satisfied with our two results at the week end, felt we were in control in both games and if we can recreate that form then I believe we have an excellent against Sligo. I am looking forward to locking horns with fellow clan member Paul Cook, I am just hoping that I will be the Cooke with the better recipe”.
