Limerick  v  Monaghan United

For the third time in a matter of weeks Monaghan United face one of the three teams that are challenging them for 2nd place in the table and this time they are away to Limerick.

Jackman Park is a ground that all teams find it difficult to get a result in and if one is to believe the reports the playing surface there at the moment is even making it tougher. However United will be hoping to extend their impressive away record.  It will be their second visit there and the third meeting of the sides this season.  On the previous trip in the EA Sports Cup United had a comprehensive 3 -0 win.  Limerick also lost on their last visit to Gortakeegan by 2-1. Going into last weekend Limerick together with Waterford were disputing second place in the Table with United, however the Monaghan side moved ahead by three points so things are tight. Jackman Park is a tough ground to get a result in and no doubt Pat Scully’s side will be confident of turning home advantage in his favour.  Limerick has taken points recently off Cork and Waterford.

Monaghan have to be travelling with a lot of confidence, they are after coming away with six impressive points against Waterford and Cork in the course of each game they gave an exhibition in passing football.  Unfortunately the season is taking its toll injury wise, lucky none too serious but enough to deprive us of the services of Brian Gartland and Aidan Lynch.

On recent form Monaghan United should extend their unbeaten run.

Injuries :- Niall Flynn, Brian Gartland.

Suspensions : none.

Manager Quotes

“We have another tough assignment ahead of us this week when we travel to Jackman Park to play Limerick.  Again we had a very pleasing result at home to Cork City the one goal win didn’t flatter us, I felt we were unlucky not to have put the tie beyond their reach in the first half when we were at our most dominant. We played some very entertaining football right throughout the game building well out of defense. I stated last week that Cork was a good side and they demonstrated that particularly in the second half. Now we must concentrate on Limerick. Like all managers in the league I believe that Jackman Park is a tough destination. Our plans for promotion are well on course but Limerick is one of the sides that could spoil the party for us.  Going into this game they have plenty of incentives, they are only 3 points behind us, so a win would bring them level and in our previous two meeting of the season we came out on top something that they will be hoping to avenge  and there is no better manager than Pat Scully to capitalize on such incentives.

We have been performing well despite the fact that we have been picking up some injuries which has meant that I have to be changing the line up from game to game.  However on the positive side it is showing we have a strong bench.

A result particularly a win would be crucial in this game against Limerick as I believe that it would give us the incentive to drive on for the remainder of the season.  However we will have to perform to our resent highest standard to achieve such a result.”
