Monaghan Fail at Final Hurdle ...But Back Door May Yet be Good for Them.
Monday, 19 July 2010 13:36

The big match is over and the analysts will all have their say but the reality is that Monaghan did not play up to their own standards and Tyrone showed why they are worthy Ulster Champions.

We are looking forward to the back door qualifiers and our chance to progress by beating Kildare this coming Saturday. So instead of dwelling on our woes, we are providing you with the most up to date minute by minute report of how the Ulster Final went. You can then analyse the highs and lows for yourself.

PRE MATCH

Before the game began the news was announced that Monaghan Captain Vincent Corey and Tyrone marksman Stephen O’Neill would not be starting. The good news for Monaghan was that Shane Duffy would return from injury and start in goal for Monaghan.

Monaghan won the toss and chose to play from right to left in the first half with little or no breeze to help them. However the new surface in St Tiernach’s Park was slippery due to a few light showers earlier in the day. Tyrone played in all red while Monaghan were in all blue. A minutes silence was held before the start to remember the eight fatalities from the recent road crash in Donegal.
