Blayney Academy
Friday, 10 February 2012 18:16
It was a tough weekend for Blayney Academy. Firstly the Senior took on Cavan Celtic in The Andy Capaldi Cup. Having played Cavan just two week's earlier Blayney knew what they were up against. The match started off with neither side able to hold possession and it continued like that for the entire game with both keeper's not having to do much. Cavan had two goals disallowed, the first was when the Blayney goal keeper was fouled and the second was offside. It was a wake up call for The Academy but no matter how hard they tried they couldnt find the net. The game eventually went to extra time but still neither team were able to to put the ball in the net. So after the full nintey minutes plus twenty minutes of extra time we had penalties. Unfortunately Blayney werent able to keep their heads and lost out 4-3. It was a game that could be descrided as a bad day at the office where the lads were punished for their poor preformance, on another day it could have been a very different result. The Academy are back in League action this weekend where they are still top of the league and that is where their main focus now lies . Get Well soon to Eamon and Ray who are still recovering from serious injury's and hope to be back in the next few weeks. Straight after the Senior match the U-18's took on Ballyhaise . An Academy team riddled with injury and saw a very week side take on the league leaders. Ballyhaise took the lead in the first half hour but then Nial McCann put Blayney on the score sheet only for their opponents responded with antor two goals. Blayney were very unlucky to have a goal disallowed which may have braught them back into the game. The final score was Blayney Academy 1 Ballyhaise 3.None of the other underage team were playing last weekend but we hope to get them back up and running this weekend.Training continues for all the Academy teams as usual and child who wishes to join any of the underage team's is more than welcome.
