Monthly meeting: Our club meeting for February takes place tonight at 8pm, preceded by the juvenile meeting at 7. A good attendance at both would be appreciated and Chairman Dermot has promised to have the senior meeting wrapped up in an hour!

County Board meeting: The club was happy to host the monthly meeting of Monaghan County Board at the Gavan Duffy Park clubhouse on Monday night. Thanks to the club members who helped out.

Membership: Membership for 2012 can now be paid to registrar Maurice Galligan c/o Cosy Bar or to Liadhan Treanor in the clubhouse. Fees are €20 per adult, €10 per child or €50 for a family of two adults and any number of children. Supporters  are asked to pay their subscription as soon as possible, as GAA rules dictate that membership must be paid by the end of March in order to have full voting rights at AGMs. All players are reminded that they must be a paid-up member of the club.

Dates to remember: We will host Monaghan Arch Club at Gavan Duffy Park on Thursday, February 23. Our annual juvenile presentation night has been set for Saturday, February 25 in the clubhouse. Club Officer training for Monaghan has been fixed for St. Macartan’s College on Saturday, March 10. Our Saturday-morning juvenile coaching is due to restart on March 24. We are also planning a white-collar boxing night for the end of March. Keep an eye on the club notes for more detail in the run-up to the event.

Scór: We will be competing in Scór Sinsear, where we intend to enter a quiz team, musicians, singers and a sketch group. If interested, please contact Cultural Officer Gerard Clerkin on 086 8535992.

Aido File: The last man standing fundraiser started our financial year off on a good note! Thanks to Jack for organising the event and all who sold and bought tickets. Training is to begin this weekend so all involved please contact Robbie in regards to our opening session for full details. Rumour has it Healy has been up and down the hill in Rooskey every day during February shouting ‘championship pace’ over and over again. Next fundraiser will be the club table so ears to the ground for final dates and details.

NFL: Good luck to the Monaghan senior footballers in Sunday’s National Football League game against Kildare in Clones.

Sympathy: We offer sympathy on behalf of the club to former player Patrick Creighan on the death of his mother, Mary.

Handball: We had a clean sweep at the County Under-11 Blitz last week when Eoghan McGinnity won the competition proper and the Plate final went to Aaron Treanor.  Eoghan mesmerised the large attendance with his serves, speed and kill shots.  He defeated fellow Harps player Jakub Szkup 15-14 and 15-3 in a thrilling final. Congratulations to Aaron and Eoghan and best of luck to Eoghan in the County Under-12 Doubles which will take place soon. Not to be outdone our adults also had a good weekend.  Conor McDonnell defeated Mickey Quinn of Armagh over two games in the Ulster Golden Masters competition while Terry McElvaney reached the Under-21 Ulster Final by virtue of a great display against Christopher McKenna in the semi-final. Best wishes to Terry who will shortly be competing in America in the Collegiate competition. By the time you read this our court will have been repainted and will be ready for action once again.
