Charity match presentation: The presentation of the cheques from our recent charity match took place in the clubhouse on Sunday week last. We are delighted that the match raised €3,303 for worthy local causes, a very impressive figure in the times we are in. The money is being split evenly between the Gorman family from Emyvale and Monaghan Senior Citizens, who are both very grateful for the support and will put the money to good use. Baby Dáire Gorman was born without forearms and his parents Kenny and Shelly set up the ‘Help Dáire Reach For The Stars’ fund to raise money for special equipment and for his treatment in Cappagh Orthopaedic Hospital, Dublin. We wish them all the best. An enjoyable night was had by all, so thanks to everyone who attended and well done again to everyone who made the charity match such a success.

Annual awards: The annual Monaghan GAA Awards night took place in the Hillgrove Hotel last Friday night and it was a good night for Monaghan Harps. The Hurling Club received a special youth achievement award on the night in recognition of the Under12 and Under-14 hurlers’ success in 2011 and Conor McDonnell was presented with the Handballer of the Year award. Congratulations to all involved.

Crawley Cup draw: We have been drawn at home to Éire Óg in this year’s Crawley Cup Reserve Football Championship First Round.

Membership: Membership fees for 2012 can now be paid to registrar Maurice Galligan c/o Cosy Bar or to Liadhan Treanor in the clubhouse. Fees are €20 per adult, €10 per child or €50 for a family of two adults and any number of children.

Dates to remember: We will host Monaghan Arch Club at Gavan Duffy Park on Thursday, February 23. Our annual juvenile presentation night has been set for Saturday, February 25 in the clubhouse. Club Officer training for Monaghan has been fixed for St. Macartan’s College on Saturday, March 10. The Senior Football League is due to start on Wednesday, April 11, with the reserve leagues beginning in early March. Our Saturday-morning juvenile coaching is due to restart on March 24.

Scór: We will be competing in Scór Sinsear, where we intend to enter a quiz team, musicians, singers and a sketch group. If interested, please contact Cultural Officer Gerard Clerkin on 086 8535992.

NFL: Good luck to the Monaghan senior footballers in Saturday evening’s National Football League game against Meath in Navan.

Aido File: The club AGM took place on Friday week last and saw a few new faces elected into office and a few old faces try to escape. The only notable loss was the one and only Joe Finlay who has stepped down as treasurer for the first time since he was appointed following the formation of the hurling club in 1977. The club would like to thank Joe for all his hard work and please God we see him throughout the years as our number one die-hard fan. Thanks Joe! Anyone with last man standing forms sold, please contact Jack immediately to get forms in and money collected!

Handball: The scene is set for the club Under-12 final between Caileán Myles and Justas Dambinskas. Both players were successful in their semi-finals against Konrad Koval and Eoghan McGinnity but were made to fight all the way by two never-say-die youngsters. Konrad in particular had Caileán worried early on before fading out as the match progressed. Eoghan played great handball and retrieved some impossible shots. However, Justas served extremely well and won by 10 and 8. The following players have been chosen on the county team for the forthcoming Ulster Championship: Caileán Myles, Justas Dambinskas, Eoghan McGinnity, Ryan Mooney, Martin Mullen and Ramunas Ramanauskas. All these players are asked to get in as much training as possible before the Championships begin. The County Board is organising an Under-11 Singles Blitz on Sunday, February 5. This is open to all eligible players. Further details next week. We have entered some new teams in the Juvenile County Doubles and we await the draws with anticipation. There is great demand for an adult club competition and this will commence shortly.
