Blayney Academy
It was a very successful weekend for all the Academy teams that played. Unfortunately the u15s game was cancelled so they will be well rested for next weekend. The U13 girls ended their first game for the club winning against a very talented Killylough side. The team played with great style and determination and have put pressure on all the boys teams to step it up a gear. Team : Niamh, Louise, Nicole, Christine, Chloda, Aoibhinne, Kim and Clara. Well done girls you did the club proud. Managers Fiona Ryan and Niamh Mc Carthy. New players aged 6-13 are encouraged to join this girls only team and play the biggest female sport in the world. The U-18s team played on Sunday morning in Belgium Park, the lads went a goal down in the first half hour but stormed back in the second half and a hat-trick by Nial McCann sealed the teams 4-1 victory. The senior team were also in action on Sunday morning in Killyough against Killylough, the team started off strong but after Cathal O Flaherty went off injured Killylough popped in a long range effort and went 1-0 up, however Blayney faught back and a well placed corner met Kevin Mcmanus's head to even the scores up just before half time. Both teams faught it out in the second half but it was the Academy who took their chances and with five minutes from stoppage Lenny Leonard placed the ball into the bottom corner ending the match 2-1. Team: Paudie, Pepper McManus, Nial Bannigan, Cathal O Flaherty, Paudge McKenna, John McKenna, Marty Doran, John McManus, Marty McCabe, Ray Steal, Eamon Ward, Kevin McManus, Lenny Leonard. Congrats to Sean Mc Guinness and Siobhan for the arrival of their new baby.
