| FAI/Ford Cup Fourth Round Replay.
Monaghan United v Sligo Rovers
After their very exciting and nail-biting encounter both sides will have to do it all again at Gortakeegan on Wednesday evening but unlike the encounter at the Showgrounds this time there will have to be a result. In the drawn game Sligo our scored Monaghan on chances. United proved that they had one of the best defences in the league. This time United will have home advantage which should make a difference. However Roddy Collins will be missing Jordan Keegan and David Byrne who are cupped tied, Eric Foley and Keith Quinn are suspended and Willo Mc. Donagh who didn’t sign in time.
Again Sligo Rovers will go into the game as Champions, they will relish getting a chance at the winners of Shamrock Rovers and St Pats in the next round, but United will be happy to be underdogs and again with the home crowd behind are well capable of causing an upset especially if they are still in the game at halftime.

Manager Quotes “ We got the result I forecasted at the Showgrounds with this prize of a home game. No one could accuse either side of going for the draw, both had chances of winning. It was a typical exciting Cup encounter. I was proud of the way the lads performed. I believe that they more than contributed with fine attacking entertaining football. There is no doubt that Sligo are a class side, had that game been in the league it would have been an excellent point, not many points are dropped by “The Bit of Red” at home. Last week I said that they only way to beat Sligo is to play them at their own kind of game of concentrating on fast attacking football, it! worked well for us, so it will be more of the same.
Unfortunately or side is weakened between players being cup tied, injured and suspended, nevertheless I believe we have some good depth . I stated from the beginning that the league was our main focus and and anything gained from the Cup would be a bonus
I believe home advantage will be very important to us, the large crowd in the Showgrounds would be intimidating to any side, even though we had a good travelling support who though out numbered managed to let the team know that they were there for them. Sligo will bring a good support but I am counting on the home support getting behind the team and being their extra man
