Airtricity League of Ireland  –  1st Division.

Limerick FC  v  Monaghan United

Monaghan United will have to put the disappointing result against Mervue behind them.  The one thing that let them down in that game was their finishing, fortunately Declan ‘Fabio’ O’ Brien who was suspended for that game makes a welcome return and should add to the required sharpness up front. The manager Roddy Collins has made a number of recent signings in particular Keith Quinn, Jordan Keegan, Paul and David Byrne. Likewise Limerick has also availed of the transfer window to make a number of valuable acquisitions. This is the sides second meeting at Jackman Park. The previous game was in the League Cup. Monaghan started with only two regulars and unsurprisingly were defeated 5-0.  Supporters can expect a m! uch different performance on this occasion. Apart from that last encounter Monaghan have been doing well in recent seasons at Jackman Park.  Of added interest the sides together with Cork City are locked in second position in the table. Monaghan are well capable of getting at least a share of the spoils from this game.

Manager Quotes “We are coming to the end of the second series of games and are still very much on course for promotion.  It is encouraging to be contesting second spot in the table with two of the big money sides namely Limerick and Cork City. We have only been defeated by two other sides in the league. Recently we parted company with four players each of who played their part in getting us to where we are. I believe that I have signed some good replacements. I found it encouraging the number of approaches that I have received from players who would like to play for Monaghan United. Last weeks result was most disappointing, our finishing on the night let down ! an otherwise fine performance; we will have to put it behind us and concentrate on this game against Limerick. I hope to be able to have a strong panel to select from. Limerick at home will be a tough assignment but the lads are looking forward to the challenge.”

Yours in Football,

Roddy Collins.
