Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes

Seniors – The seniors had a straightforward win over a depleted Scotstown team on Saturday evening. Blayney opening the scoring with an excellent fisted point from half back Gareth Duffy but with Scotstown competing well around the middle it was nip and tuck until a Ciaran Hanratty goal put daylight between the teams. Further 1st half goals from Ryan Treacy and Dermot Malone from the penalty spot put the the issue beyond doubt. There was no let up from Blayney in the second half and points from Hanratty (4), Hill and Marty McElroy stretched the lead and a late Ryan Treacy goal put the icing on a 4-13 to 0-10 victory. This weekend’s game is on Sunday when we are away to Doohamlet at 12.00PM.

Junior B – The Junior Bs recorded a 2-08 to 0-11 win over Clontibret in an O’Duffy cup quarter final last Wednesday night. Having to field without 5-6 regulars Blayney were really up against it but from the moment Brendan McElroy netted in the 1st minute they were up for the battle and were well worth their win. There was never much between the teams but a brilliant goal from Gerry Brady in the last 10 minutes sealed the game for Blayney. The prize for that win was an away semi-final to Latton which took place last night (Wednesday), result and report next week.

U21 – The U21s are home to Donaghmoyne next Monday night at 7.45PM.

Minor – The minors played out an entertaining draw with Truagh last Tuesday night. Despite Blayney dominating the first half the teams were level at half time. On the resumption Truagh took over and had opened a 5 point lead as the game entered its last 10 minutes. Blayney were handed a lifeline when they were awarded a penalty which Pauric Greene cooly dispatched and two points, the last an inspirational score from Cormac McNally, ensured that the teams would share the spoils, Faughs 1-10 Truagh 0-13.

Paul Hill Memorial Golf – This Friday sees the Paul Hill golf day at Concra Wood with all proceeds going to the Irish Heart Foundation. There is also a social event lined up on the night in the Concra Wood club-house we’d very much appreciate it if our members would make an effort to come along on the night and support this very worthy cause.

Cul Camp – Cul Camp is visiting Blayney this week and it’s great to see so many of our younger members out in the field going through their paces.

Gaelic Life – This week’s edition of the Gaelic Life newspaper contains a feature on the Faughs, the newspaper can be obtained from local newsagents on Thursday.

Muckno Mania – This weekend sees the annual Muckno Mania Festival and the Faughs are hosting a kid’s sports day on Saturday, also on Saturday we have some relay teams entered in the Muckno Mania Triathlon. On Sunday as part of the family fun day at Lough Muckno several of our players/mentors will be doing a sponsored bungee jump to raise funds for our juveniles, so if you see them with their cards please give generously. Check out the programme in local press for times of these events.

Festival Queen – Best of luck to Alison Mackin who is the Faughs representative in the Muckno Mania Festival Queen pageant this weekend.

U16 – the U16s lost narrowly to Donaghmoyne last week.

U12 – The U12s followed up their defeat of Clontibret with another good showing against Inniskeen last Saturday morning, there was little to separate the teams until the final period when a stronger Inniskeen team pulled away.
