EA Sports Cup Quarter Final

Limerick  v  Monaghan

It will be a very experimental side that Roddy Collins will be sending out against Limerick at Jackman Park on Tuesday evening. This should give Limerick the edge. Goalkeeper Gabriel Sava misses his first game since he made his debut for the club at the commencement of last season, he will be replaced by Jake Rossiter. We should be seeing a new back four and also mid field and up front should see new faces. Monaghan teenager  Kevin Loughran should be making a return. Supporters might think that they are seeing double as there  will be two Roddy Collins, yes the manager son as well as Davy Byrne ( a cousin of Alan) are two new signings. Michael Isichei will get another chance to add to his two goals against Salthill Devon. Shane Fitzgerald, Jason Marks an! d Jimmy Fallon will probably all start.

The league may be Roddy Collins main concentration but I am sure he wouldn’t  pass up a chance to impress in a competition that United did so well in last season.

Limerick will have the favourites tag and they have home advantage. The game will have to be decided on the night with extra time and penalties if necessary.

Injuries: Conor Mc. Mahon, Gabriel Sava, Aidan Colins, Alan Byrne, John Brennan, Ryan Brennan and Philip Byrne

Suspensions : Paul Whelan

Manager Quotes “We haven’t much time to recover from Saturday’s game against Longford Town. Fortunately it wasn’t one of our toughest encounters of the season that is apart from the last ten minutes.

Although our main concentration is on the league I love the magic of Cup ties.  They never seem to go to script and the bigger the gap between the sides the more likely one is to get an upset. Well there isn’t much between Limerick and Monaghan United – three points to be precise.

As much as I have been looking forward to this fixture it is coming at the wrong time for us as our side is decimated through injuries and suspension which was compounded in the Longford game. Even our very consistent keeper misses his first game since starting at the beginning of last season.  But every cloud has its silver lining; this will give many of the younger lads and the new signings an opportunity and with all these lads hoping to impress  I believe that they will take the game to Limerick

Yours in Football,

Roddy Collins.
