Castleblayney Faughs Club Notes

Seniors – The senior’s fortunes improved last Wednesday night when they played out a thrilling 1-11 to 2-08 draw with Truagh. Blayney started very slowly and when they conceded a goal midway through the half they fell 5 in arrears. But with Ciaran hughes driving them forward from midfield a flurry of scores including a fine Gerry Brady goal saw Blayney lead by a point at the interval. The omens looked good for Blayney when they got the first score of the second half, a Ciaran Hanratty point but that was to be the last score for quite a while as Traugh added a goal and two to take a three point lead into the last quarter. Blayney refused to panic and 4 unanswered points the best a Keith Hill 45 had Blayney in front before a Truagh free levelled the game again. In a frantic finale both teams had chances to win but a draw was probably a fair result. Next Wednesday night the seniors play Inniskeen in a re-arranged game in Inniskeen at 8.00PM.

Junior B An understrength junior B team battled hard to defeat Latton 1-14 to 2-07 on Sunday evening. They were behind for a good period of the game but finished very strongly to secure the points. The scores came from Ryan Treacy 1-3, Gerry Brady 0-4, Ray McArdle, Paddy Finnegan, Ciaran McGinn 0-2 each and Niall Duffy 0-1. Last night (Wednesday) they played Clontibret in the O’Duffy Cup, result and report next week.

Junior C – The Cs gave a good account of themselves last Friday night before bowing out of the Crawley Cup to Scotstown on a score of 1-12 to 1-07. Playing against a team a division above them was always going to be difficult but they never gave up and fought right to the end with the highlight from a Blayney perspective an excellent goal from Gerry Brady.
