St. Patrick’s Day has been and gone and it was great to see that both
Newbliss and Lough Egish Macra clubs took part in their local parades. Well
done to all involved with both clubs and congratulations to Lough Egish who
took home the prize for best float in the Ballybay parade. It’s wonderful
to see Macra back on the streets of the county again.
All clubs are reminded that Lough Egish Macra will have their launch night
in Annaghamullen social centre on Saturday April 9th at a purposed head
shave and leg wax which is hoped will raise funds for the up-coming club. On
the 8th of April Newbliss Macra are holding a fundraising table quiz in
Dan’s Bar, Newbliss. Time is yet to be confirmed but again clubs are
encouraged to support.

Cavan hosted the Lakeland Shield indoor soccer competition on Sunday 14th
past and kindly invited Monaghan clubs to enter. With teams from most of the
clubs in Monaghan they were in fear of losing their trophy. When the boys
from Lough Egish took to the court it was clear that they were a force to be
reckoned with. The battled on through many matches and by close of
tournament they were crowned champions and took home the Lakeland Shield.
Congratulations to all involved and we hope to see the silverwear on display
on April 9th!

From the above the new clubs are quickly emerging as a force to be reckoned
with and the older clubs are encouraged to get practising for the upcoming
competitions. Volleyball is due to take place this coming weekend (further
details are available from Paul on 085-7433417) with farm skills and others
next month. We hope these will be strongly contested by the Macra veterans
and possibly shake things up a bit!

The farmers in Macra will be pleased to hear that Michael Gowing launched
the KW Forage Systems Silage competition last week. This is grass assessment
test which encourages young farmers to develop their grass management and
silage making skills. Further details can be obtained from www.macra.ie.
Anyone with notes for inclusion in coming Macra notes are asked to contact
Brenda on 087-9519249 or at brenda.mcquillan@macra.ie.
