| Saturday last will agree that surely was a night to remember! Freddie Mercury opened the show in what can only be described as a rather adventurous stage costume. Acts from Cavan, Meath and Monaghan followed before the Tydavnet Spice Girls took to the stage. Their performance was extraordinary with the costumes relatively accurate to those of the original band. Who knew there was such talent in north Monaghan? The Tydavnet drama troupe won’t have far to go to find new recruits! After all acts had performed our experienced judges Marian Larmer and Kevin Allen stepped outside to deliberate. The audience then cast their votes. After a short interval our wonderful compare, Peadar Mc Mahon, announced the winners. The Spice girls took third place with their rendition of Wannabe. In second place was Georgina Malone from North Meath but it Laura Feely from Truagh Macra who stole the night. She received the Superstar plaque and a cash prize. Congratulations from everyone in Monaghan Macra to the winners and to all the acts who entertained us tremendously on the night. Superstar would be impossible to stage without the support of sponsors who again funded us so generously. In particular we would like to thank Monaghan Co-op and Monahgan Credit Union who have supported us for the entire four years of Superstar. Everyone in Monaghan Macra greatly appreciates your support. We also wish to thank our judges Marian Larmer and Kevin Allen who assisted in choosing the winner. A tremendous thank you goes out to Peadar Mc Mahon who once again did a terrific job comparing the event. Over the coming weeks there will be numerous macra events taking place throughout the county. Dates will be finalised at this week’s county executive so be sure to check the notes over the coming weeks to find out more. Anyone with information for Macra notes over the coming weeks can contact Brenda on brenda.mcquillan@macra.ie. |
