| Monaghan County Council is to receive over €1.2 million from the Government under the Rural Water Programme, according to local Fianna Fáil TD Margaret Conlon. Deputy Conlon has also confirmed that the maximum grant per household under the Group Water Schemes is set to increase by €1,000.
“Monaghan County Council has been granted €600,000 for the upgrading of Group Water Schemes. We have also secured €445,000 for small public water and sewerage works, along with €195,000 for the design, construction and operation of rural water projects.
“The Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government Éamon Ó Cúiv has also announced that the maximum grant available per household under the Group Water Schemes will increase by €1,000. This positive move was developed in conjunction with the National Rural Water Services Committee.
“I am delighted that such significant funding has been made available to improve our water supplies during these difficult economic times. It will help to ensure that Monaghan County Council will be able to finish any remaining schemes on their Action Plan to upgrade the group water schemes with substandard sources. The Council will also have the resources to upgrade public water schemes to help improve the quality of our drinking water and prevent pollution.
“It is vital that people in rural areas of Monaghan will have access to high quality drinking water and improved waste water facilities. This investment in our water schemes will help us improve the water supplies throughout the county,” concluded Deputy Conlon.
