THE GREAT MONAGHAN DEBATE
Monday, 14 February 2011 15:53

A unique opportunity to listen to all Monaghan candidates together

Friends of Monaghan Harps GAA Club are hosting a fundraising night in the Hillgrove Hotel on Friday week, February 18, at 7.30pm. With interest in Irish politics reaching almost unprecedented levels ahead of the general election on February 25 and amid all the talk about debates on a national level, the Great Monaghan Debate gives Monaghan candidates an opportunity to put forward their views on national and in particular local issues to a large audience. This gives the people of Monaghan a chance to assess the county’s Dáil hopefuls.

Confirmed currently at this unique debate are TDs Caoimhghín Ó Caoláin (Sinn Féin) and Margaret Conlon (Fianna Fáil) along with Fine Gael candidate Councillor Seán Conlan, the Green Party’s Darcy Lonergan and Independent candidates Cllr. Séamus Treanor and John McGuirk.

The debate is being staged on an apolitical basis and it will be chaired by former Monaghan county manager Declan Nelson. It will hopefully prove to be a unique and informative night and one what will have wide interest and support from all over the county. Admission is €10 and tickets can be purchased on

first-come, first-served basis, so don’t be late  door
