| General Election candidate Sean Conlan says that one of the top priorities of the next Dáil must be to restore national sovereignty. “Since Fianna Fail brought the IMF and the EU in to fund the cost of their mistakes in government, Ireland has lost much of its ability to manage its own affairs. We’ve lost our freedom to set our own budgets. Foreign politicians wish to interfere further in Irish affairs as we’ve seen from threatened changes to Ireland’s corporation tax regime” said Conlan. “Ireland is at the mercy of the IMF and the EU because Fianna Fail in government put the debts of broken banks on to the shoulders of the Irish people. For 14 years Fianna Fail spent recklessly. As a final insult Fianna Fail saddled Ireland with punitively high interest rates as the party ceded financial sovereignty to the IMF and the EU” said Conlan. “Fine Gael in government has pledged to balance the budget by 2016. We will aggressively renegotiate the terms of the IMF/EU deal and we will work to put full control of the Irish State back in the hands of the Irish people” said Conlan. |
