Monday, 07 February 2011 15:45

Caoimhe Coleman, Kate Daly, Breda Finnegan and Eileen Mc

Elroy would like to thank everybody for their generous contributions

in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland. They are pleased to

announce that the final total raised was €5068.57. In raising this money

they held three fundraisers and a church gate collection. The girls did a

bag pack in the Tesco supermarket in Monaghan Shopping Centre on Friday

5th November.

Castleblayney on Saturday 13th November 2010. As well as anyone who made

contributions they would like to thank all those who baked the various buns

and cakes and also Concra Wood Golfcourse and Clubhouse for the use of

their facilities. A church gate collection took place the following

weekend 21st November at Broomfield Church, Castleblayney. The final

fundraiser was a night of entertainment in the Spinning Wheel Bar in

Castleblayney on Friday 26th November. This was a night enjoyed by all

with local band The Fuzzy Burgers performing along with a raffle on the

night. A special word of thanks goes to Damien Hughes of The Spinning

Wheel Bar and Lounge for his act of generosity in providing the

entertainment and the use of the facilities for the night. This all

culminated on Saturday 27th November when the four girls travelled down

to Edenderry in County Offaly to undertake a Sky-Dive at 10,000 feet.

The icy and snowy conditions meant that they weren’t able to

perform the sky-dive until the afternoon but the anticipation meant that

the jump was all the more exciting.

Cystic Fibrosis is Ireland's most common life-threatening inherited

disease. Approximately 1 in 19 people are carriers of the CF gene and

where two carriers parent a child together, there is a 1 in 4 chance of

the baby being born with CF. CF affects the glands, damaging many organs

including the lungs, the pancreas, the digestive tract and the

reproductive system.

The girls wish to give a big thank you again to everyone who contributed to this worthy cause,

all the support and help was greatly appreciated.
