 Dear Constituent,

My name Liam Hogan and I have been selected as the Labour candidate for Cavan/Monaghan (change the order of these for Monaghan canvass) and I am asking you to consider voting for me in the upcoming general election.  I would like to outline my policies on a couple of issues but before I do that, as this is my first time to contest the general election, let me tell you a little about myself.

I ran for the county council in the local elections for Cavan and came very close to taking a seat and for, a first time out, I was very proud of that.  I learned a lot from that experience and realise how big the challenge of taking a Dáil seat is so I will be taking nothing for granted and I know I will have to work hard for every vote. I am determined to work tirelessly in order to deliver real change to politics.

I am passionate about the future of Cavan and Monaghan in these challenging times and as the only Labour candidate I believe I can offer a real alternative to the politics of the past – an alternative that will put the citizen first, not last. We need to attract new jobs, retain existing employment and develop local employment opportunities particularly in the agri-food and tourism sectors. We need to promote sustainable development and ensure that this generation does not suffer from poverty and emigration that our country experienced in the past.

I believe that politics is about public service not self service. I believe it is our duty as politicians to provide hope for those in our society who are worried about paying their mortgage, providing education for their children and appropriate access to public services. Labour, under the leadership of Eamon Gilmore, has put forward a number of political and social reforms which address these issues and which can, I believe, achieve our goal of building a better and fairer Ireland.

I appreciate just how big a challenge awaits me but I think the voters in Cavan/Monaghan want to see a real change in how we are governed and represented and now that Labour has a candidate in the field, I think they have a real choice that simply was not there before.

It would be a honour and a privilege the people of Cavan/Monaghan and that is why I am asking for your No.1 vote in the upcoming General Election.  I welcome your feedback or if you raise an issue of concern with me do not hesitate to get in touch.

Kind regards,

Liam Hogan
