At last nights meeting of the Town Council calls were made for a Doctor on calls service to be provided in Monaghan Town.
Councillor Paul McGeown raised the issue saying that Monaghan Town is in vital need of this service.
This comes in light of the significant increase in the demand for the North East doctor on call over the Christmas period.
It had been noted that in Monaghan the Castleblaney centre treated almost 600 patients over the two weekends of Christmas and New Year.
Councilor McGeown also highlighted the fact that over the Christmas period there was a shortage of medical services in the area and the Doctor on Call in Castleblaney found it difficult to cope with the demand;
He is also calling for the Council to write to the relevant bodies to get this issue addressed
