Monaghans Water Supply Updated
Friday, 31 December 2010 14:33

All night crews have been working  to maintain supplies on the Lough Egish Scheme, the largest in the county serving the Ballybay, Castleblayney and Clontibret areas.

Work has been  continuing in Emyvale and Glaslough to  address burst watermains and some interruptions to supply are to be expected.

Water to both villages was  turned off between 10pm and 7am  last night (Thursday) to conserve supplies in the reservoirs.

In Clones town the water supply is at critically low level. Four plumbing crews are addressing the large number of leaks. Water usage continues to exceed production from the treatment plant.

Twelve cast-iron water meters have had to be replaced on Fermanagh Street, due to extreme frost damage.

Despite the mild weather, many house connections have yet to thaw. Householders are asked to be patient and vigilant.

All keyholders of businesses and community facilities should  inspect their properties and turn off connections.

Farmers are asked to ensure that cattle troughs and outside water connections are turned off. All consumers are requested to conserve water in the home.
