| Three people and an unborn child have died following last night's three-car collision in Co Monaghan according to local Gardai.They said a 38-year-old woman, who was five months pregnant died on Our Ladies Hospital Drogheda this morning. Her unborn child a short time later, depite valiant attempts to save it by the hospital staff. Two passengers in another car, both men aged 27, died at the scene last night. They are said to be from the Meath area. l
Three people remain in hospital. The occupants of a third car have been treated for minor injuries. Two children who were travelling with their parents in one of the cars were unhurt. The collision happened 3km outside of Carrickmacross on the N2 Carrickmacross to Ardee road at around 6.30pm last night (Monday ) Garda Superintendent Noel Cunningham described the accident as 'a horrendous occurrence'. Gardaí said the collision is being investigated and the road has been closed. |
