The National Roads Authority yesterday said we have just 8-thousand tonnes of salt left for the entire country.

Monaghan County Council's supplies of salt are at critical levels.  Despite it been  compliant with the National Roads Authority Directive

to only salt main primary routes, there is little reserves left to continue treating routes to the extent they've been treated until now.

Monaghan County Council says that stocks are very low with supplies only left to treat national roads last night.
It says however that deliveries of 30 tonnes are due in today and tomorrow Wednesday
Motorists are asked to drive with extreme care, go slowly and keep a safe distance from the vehicle ahead.

Also  Monaghan Town Council aims to have all footpaths and pedestrian areas cleared of ice within 48 hours.
It emerged at last night's meeting of the Council that a new vegetable-based, organic liquid is being used by local authority
staff to break down build-ups of ice in the town centre area.
Town engineer Gareth McMahon told the meeting that the aim is to have dangerous ice deposits eliminated in the next 24 to 48 hours
 - after which the use of the liquid will be expanded to other areas.
