Monaghan County Council leaves commercial rates untouched.

Monaghan County Mayor Cllr Jackie Crowe says the council is happy to have been able to leave the commercial rate for businesses

untouched at their annual estimates meeting which was held on Friday night. This  despite reductions in the council own funding. The local authority had 1.7 million euro deficit
but this has been reduced to just less than 350,000 this year
However community groups are likely to see a decrease in their funding from the Council due to the 9% reduction this year in the local authority allocations.
The rate has been left unchanged, together with the water and waste charges for non-domestic premises.
Mayor Crowe says the council has had a cut of nine and a half per cent in their local government funding from central government,
and they asked Director of Services in each programme to reduce expenditure by 10% without impacting vital services.
