Minister Unveils Plans For Monaghan’s New Education Campus

Today Tanaiste and Minister for Education and Skills, Mary Coughlan helped unveil the plans for Monaghan’s new Education campus. Digital images and design plans for Monaghan's new Education Campus were unveiled to show what it mighty look like when completed. As well as the three school buildings, the development will include a sports hall, a theatre, ball courts and nearly 300 car parking spaces.The 20 million euro project  - which will see old Army Barracks site on the Armagh Road out of the town transformed to house the Monaghan Institute of Further Education and Trainning (M.I.F.E.T) which is currently situated at  the former St. Davnets Hospital Complex, Colaiste Oiriall and Gaelscoil Ultan. 

Conditional planning permission was granted to Co. Monaghan VEC subject to 16 conditions.Early in November, Monaghan VEC submitted a planning application to the County Council for the project, a month earlier than expected - and a decision is expected in January.It's hoped that construction on the site will begin in early Spring - and its understood that the first intake of students at Monaghan VEC Education Campus is scheduled for September 2012
