Tensions among politicians in Dáil Eireann are being felt just as equally in Monaghan. This was evident at yesterdays meeting of Monaghan County Council tensions amongst councillors became heated when Sinn Fein members proposed a motion asking the Council to agree that any Government refuse to honour the terms of any loan agreed.
They also asked to abolish the banking guarantee leaving only deposits guaranteed and to use the National Pension reserve fund for economic stimulus and job creation measures. Sinn Fein also requested for all parties to withdraw confidence in this government, call for a suspension of today's budget and to call an immediate general election.
After almost 90 minutes of extremely heated debate and discussion from all parties, the measures failed to win a majority vote.
However Fine Gael Councillor Owen Bannigan brought forward a new motion calling for a vote of no confidence and a call for an immediate election which was passed with a majority of 15 with the 5 Fianna Fail representatives voting against.
