| As further nights of snowfalls and freezing conditions are forecast for many parts of the country particularly in the East and North-East . Met Eireann is warning that temperatures will plummet to as low as minus 13 degrees tonight in places.
National routes in Monaghan will remain the priority roads for salting and gritting programmes.
Concerns had been raised by Monaghan IFA representatives about the treatment of secondary and minor routes as milk lorries and feed deliveries were having difficulty gaining access to farms.
They have pointed out that drivers whi are collecting milk from the farms are being more cautious about driving these roads and more grit is needed for secondary routes.
IFA Chairman for Monaghan Bert Stewart has been in talks with the Councty Council and in the light of the current conditions the Council is to provide salt and grit to farmers across the county from local offices in Castleblaney, Clones, Carrickmacross and Emyvale.
Road conditions are being described as treacherous and drivers are being asked to take care. |
