Residents in the Monaghan area are being asked for there opinion on how the issue of so called ghost estates should be dealt with.
This is due to a new draft manual for Managing and Resolving Unfinished Housing Developments has been published which aims to address a number of key problems with a particular focus on relieving urgent difficulties for residents in these estates.
This document was prepared by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government and the Advisory Group on Unfinished Housing Developments.
This follows the publication of the National Housing Development Survey in October 2010 which revealed that there are currently hundreds of complete and unoccupied dwellings in County Monaghan.
This draft manual now aims to provide the necessary tools to ensure that these unfinished housing developments are effectively managed through the current economic difficulties and resolved as quickly as possible.
It proposes a number of measures including establishing an Unfinished Housing Developments Team in each local authority, identifying issues that need to be prioritised for action in the short term and establishing a process for engagement with local residents on the matter.
Members of the public, Local Authorities and key stakeholders in the house-building sector are now being urged to have their say on this report which is available to view and download from www.housing.ie and from www.environ.ie.
The closing date for receipt of submissions is 4 pm on Friday, 14 January next year.
