| "If elected to Dáil Éireann in the forthcoming General Election, I will on the first day the new Dáil sits carry out a citizens arrest on Taoiseach Brian Cowen TD for economic treason and fraud against the Irish people" says Jonathan Rainey, the newly announced Independent General Election Candidate in Cavan Monaghan.
He claims "In light of the IMF bailout, it is clear the only people the Fianna Fail Green Government are seeking to protect are bondholders, rouge developers and others associated with the corrupt Golden Circle of influence in Ireland and Europe. The taxpayer has been fed a lie that this bailout is necessary for a national recovery, when in fact it transpires we are raiding the National Pension Reserve Fund, pumping almost €35 Billion into what are toxic and failed banks and still on top of all this there has been no jobs strategy put in place to try and reduce dole numbers and stop our brightest and best from emigrating".
"I am launching my bid for a Dáil seat and will be 100% straight and upfront with the electorate. I will back Enda Kenny for Taoiseach if elected. I will work with other Independents and smaller partys including Sinn Fein and Socialist Party to maximise collective speaking rights and assert more influence. I will not support any cuts in Welfare, cuts to Education or Health or cuts to Job creation until every TD, Senator and Councillor in this country has had their Salaries and Expenses reduced by at least 50%. No member of the Civil Service should be paid more than €100,000 per year or be able to claim unvouched expenses or have a pension of more than €100,000 per year. All bonuses for Bankers should be stopped immediately and a full Garda Fraud Investigation should be launched into the Irish Financial Crisis" states Rainey.
Jonathan is 35 years old and lives outside Ballyjamesduff in County Cavan. His family are members of the first Presbyterian Church settlement in Ireland (1693), a small village called Ballycarry in County Antrim. A former Fine Gael councillor in Fingal until 2004, Jonathan tried his hand at business before the present economic downturn.
"I think its somewhat significant the only Presbyterian in the present Dáil Deputy Seymour Crawford is retiring. Religious equality and representation is vital if we are to celebrate our social and religious diversity. I'd be honoured to assume the mantle he has so effectively champaioned" claims Rainey. "At present Im on Disability Allowance having had a knee replacement in May and awaiting another one in 2011. Ive plenty of life experiences, in politics, in business, as a parent, as a patient and as a person faced with the normal day to day challenges many families face in Ireland. I've had to renegotiate with my mortgage lender like many families to keep my home and had to significantly change my lifestyle in recent times. This Christmas is going to be a challenge for many families".
Jonathan states he will be launching a full election campaign as soon as the Dáil is dissolved in the new year, however in the meantime his campaign can be followed or supported through his website at www.ArrestCowen.com . "Im in this campaign to ask tough questions and ask each and every candidate standing alongside me why they are treating the electorate with such distain and brushing off our concerns and worries. Im going to shape the debate in Cavan Monaghan, Im going to reach out and listen to people who feel betrayed and let down by the political establishment. Im going to say the things that need saying and redden a few faces over parliamentary attendance, expenses, lavish lifestyles and bring a few politicians down to earth. Many of our politicians have become insulated against whats happening in the real world. Id challenge any of them to live my life for a day, or live on 196.00euro a week like fellow welfare recipients. This election is going to reshape Ireland and lay the foundations on which we can build a New Ireland" concluded Rainey.
