A VOTE of sympathy was passed at a meeting of Monaghan County Council on Tuesday of this week with Sinn Fèin councillor Jackie Crowe whose sister Frances passed away recently.

The vote of sympathy was proposed by Mayor Heather Humphreys. Fine Gael councillor Hugh McElvaney associated himself with it on behalf of his party members by saying it was good to see Cllr Crowe at the meeting as it was not easy to deal with losing a family member. Fianna Fàil councillor John O’Brien and Independent councillor Paudge Connolly also offered their condolences to Cllr Crowe as did County Manager Declan Nelson who spoke on behalf of the staff of Monaghan County Council.

Thanking all present for their sympathetic words Cllr Crowe expressed gratitude to all those who had called to the house to offer their condolences. He said it had been a great comfort and thanked all the councillors on behalf of both his family and himself. A minute’s silence was then observed as a mark of respect.
