People and businesses of Monaghan, you should be proud, very proud and the Lions Club in Monaghan would like to say a massive Thank you to you all on behalf of the people of Haiti and ourselves. Thanks to the generosity of the people and businesses of Monaghan an amazing sum of €30,000 was raised for the people of Haiti in our recent emergency appeal. This was then doubled by Lions Clubs International Fund (LCIF) to €60,000 and sent to Haiti in the form of tents, water purification tablets etc. No administration fees are taken from these funds so be assured your money has gone direct to the people who need it most.
Now unfortunately our next disaster is happening 5000 miles away in Pakistan. 20 million people (including 6 million children) in the Indus Basin are suffering in extremely poor conditions with little or no drinking water. It’s difficult to comprehend, it’s not getting the publicity it deserves and people of all ages are suffering extreme hardship. The Lions answer is an amazing water purification tablet manufactured in Wexford. Imagine a convoy of 120 gleaming silver 6-axle tankers filled with clean drinking water making their way to Pakistan. That’s the equivalent of what we’ll be able to do with one pallet of these tablets, with a small carbon foot print and a massive bang for each euro we contribute. They are shipped free via Pakistan International Airlines through Manchester Airport. The first delivery arrived safely in Karachi on the 31st August 2010. One pallet of these amazing tablets costs €3200 (€208 per box). It equates to 4,800,000 litres of clean drinking water. Amazing! We want to send more and we’d appreciate your help. If you can help, please call into the AIB in the Diamond, Monaghan at your earliest convenience. The account details you need are as follows: Account number 21485378, sort code is 932477. Leave your donation at reception marked “Monaghan Lions Pakistan Appeal”. We’ll keep you informed of the progress. Thanks in advance. Please note Monaghan Lions Club now meet in the Westenra Arms Hotel on the 1st and 3rd Monday in each month. |
