Carrick Man Tipped as New DG of RTE

Carrickmacross native Noel Curran is being tipped to succeed Cathal Goan as the new Director General of RTE.

Noel holds a BA in Communications from Dublin City University where he specialised in broadcasting policy with a focus on Public Service Broadcasting. He joined RTÉ in 1992, after a period working with the print media as a business journalist and Deputy Editor with Business and Finance. During his time in RTÉ Noel has worked as a reporter, producer and editor in RTÉ Television most recently as the Editor of Current Affairs in the News Division. He was appointed Managing Director of Television in 2003.

Noel was a member of the Senior Management Team of the News and Current Affairs IBD with responsibility for editorial output and management of resources in Current Affairs before leaving RTE in May this year to pursue other interests. However he continued to work in an advisory capacity with RTE.
