Three Brazilian nationals who were discovered when Gardai raided a house in Monaghan over a month ago were remanded on bail to appear at Monaghan District Court on 6 September on charges relating to prostitution. Mr Douglas Coelho (26) who gave an address at 13 the Steeples, Mosgrave St, Limerick, and two women, 22 year old Raimindus Dos Santos and 36 year old Raimunda Teixcira from the same address were charge in connection with a Garda raid on the house at 52 Riverside Monaghan on 2 June last. Douglas Ceolho was charged with living off the earnings of prostitution, and Inspector Pat Mc Morrow told the court heard that this accused was also in the country illegally. The two females Teixcira and Dos Santos were both charged with soliciting or importuning for purposes of prostitution. Remanding all three on continuing bail Judge Sean MacBride said he had reservations about Ceolho as it is alleged that he benefited substantially from illegal earnings. He imposed strict conditions in so far as they had to hand over their passports and not apply for travel documents. Other conditions were that they do not leave the jurisdiction. That they have no contact with or interfere with state witnesses. That they observe a curfew from 11pm to 7am daily. That they sign on three times a week on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday at Henry Street Garda Station in Limerick. That they are not allowed to enter Cavan or Monaghan except for bona fide consultation with their legal team or to appear in court. When Judge MacBride was asked to approve legal aid for Coelho he ordered that an affidavit of means be carried out on him including any bank statements and receipts before he would consider a legal aid certificate at the next hearing. However he approved legal aid for both women defendants. None of the defendants were in court to hear the proceedings.
