Clones Gardai are urging motorists to arrive early for the Ulster finals on Sunday and get their parking spaces long before the games begin.

A spokesperson told monaghanlife.ie that in order to avoid traffic congestion in the town there will be a traffic flow operation in place, with the town area left virtually parking free and on approach roads parking will be limited to outside the town boundary. Gardai say with the co-operation of local landowners there will be a number of extra car parks available. Vehicles obstructing residents homes or parked illegally will be towed away.

Motorists intending to pass through Clones on Sunday are advised to seek alternative routes from 11.30am on as traffic is forecast to be very heavy after that time. The spokesperson added that no alcohol will be allowed through the barriers halfway up the Church hill and traffic through those barriers will be restricted. As in previous years licenced premises in the town will not be allowing anyone unto the street with glass containers or bottles.

However despite these restrictions the spokesperson said it is not the Gardaí’s intention to spoil what is in effect a fun day for all the family and with a little co-operation from the public it will prove to be that once again this year. Gardai will be directing traffic throughout the day and  they are asking everyone attending the finals to obey the instructions of Gardai and the match stewards.
