Local Monaghan schools, St. Mary’s National School, St. Mary’s Hill, and Castleblaney Central, Castleblaney, have been selected as grand finalists in the national Our World Irish Aid Awards. The schools are among just eleven finalists chosen from across Ireland to participate in a special awards ceremony in Dublin Castle on February 21st. More than 9,000 students, from 450 schools entered the competition.
The annual Our World Irish Aid Awards is a great Primary schools initiative which encourages young people to explore the lives of children of their own age in developing countries and to understand the work that Irish Aid undertakes across the world. The theme of the Awards this year was ‘Caring for the Planet, Feeding Our World’.
St. Mary’s National School’s project, titled ‘Our World – Our Choices Matter’, featured a village model and presentations. Castleblaney Central’s project, titled ‘Climate Change and Food Poverty’ featured a presentation fridge magnet and cartoon character, OZO!
The teachers and pupils are really thrilled to have been chosen from so many schools and are very excited about their trip to Dublin Castle in February. Do you think you might be interested in doing a story with the schools about their beautiful and colourful African-inspired presentations, cartoon character and books?
The schools would love the opportunity to show how proud they are of the children’s creativity and efforts on behalf of the school and county.
