From Monaghan with love:
Send a piece of Ireland Down Under this Christmas with Taste Ireland
Australia’s Irish food product supplier Taste Ireland, has launched its Christmas hamper and stocking gift service. The online company – www.tasteireland.com.au – is now taking orders for the Christmas season, allowing families and friends of people now living in Australia to send them a taste of Ireland this festive season.
For those unable to make a trip back to the northern hemisphere for Christmas, Taste Ireland can bring a piece of home to expats throughout Australia and New Zealand to ward off homesickness. Products we grew up with are rare treats in the Antipodes, including favourites such as Tayto crisps, Kimberley Biscuits, Ballymaloe Relish and Club Orange not to mention the cherished Cadbury’s chocolate selection.
PICTURED HERE at Bondi Beach, Sydney launching the Taste Ireland Christmas hampers was Martin Connolly from Emyvale, with his wife Geraldine, their daughter Kayanna and Geraldine's sister Tara Young. Geraldine and Tara hail from Scarnagh, on the Wicklow/Wexford border.  Martin would love to take the family home to spend Christmas with his parents Kathleen and Patrick, and siblings john, Niamh and Kevin, but he will be spending it with two of his siblings who also live here in Sydney, and his wife, baby and sister-in-law.
Martin said: “we’re really lucky to have some familly around at Christmas but the Irish community here really pulls together at times when you feel really homesick. It’s beautiful and sunny on Christmas day but it’s not quite home really!”
Taste Ireland owner Eamon Eastwood said: “I arrived in Australia initially as a backpacker in 1999 just in time to experience the Sydney Olympics, I found that so many Irish expats really missed the basic groceries – the first comment everyone makes out here is that the tea just isn’t the same!
“So I originally set about importing Tayto crisps and other iconic Irish foods that my friends and I really missed and it has grown from there. The number of Irish moving to this country since the GFC is astounding and while many used to see Australia as a year of travel, the Irish who are now coming here are here to find work and sponsorship and are looking for a more permanent life. We have built a great expat community in every city in Australia, we all look out for each other so no one will feel too lonely this Christmas, even if we are the other side of the world.”
Orders to be placed before the following deadlines to ensure delivery before Christmas:
New Zealand, Northern Territory & Country Western Australia - 6th December
Perth, Country NSW, South Australia, Victoria & Queensland - 10th December
Adelaide - 18th December
Brisbane, Melbourne, and Canberra Metro Areas – 19th December
Sydney Metro- 19th December
