Cavan/Monaghan Fianna Fáil T.D. Margaret Conlon has secured a commitment from the Tánaiste & Minister for Education and Skills Mary Coughlan T.D. which has resulted in Monaghan VEC being approved to purchase the lands on which the Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre is currently located.

Deputy Conlon has described this as great news for Monaghan VEC and education provision in the local area. Following the lands being acquired by the VEC the Tanagh Outdoor Education Centre will be further developed for educational purposes and according to Deputy Conlon will also have huge potential for development as a tourist facility. “This site will be a huge addition to the VEC in the county and will greatly improve its facilities.”

The facilities offered by the VEC to students in Monaghan will be secured for the long term through this investment.  “It will help in the ongoing provision and future development of activities that will be available to the local community and tourists visiting the area. Monaghan has seen a huge investment in educational facilities over the past 12 months. Many of these projects are being driven by the VEC and I want to applaud their work and wish them continued success,” the local Fianna Fáil T.D added.

The Tánaiste has informed Deputy Conlon that her department will be in contact with the VEC in the coming days to formally approve the acquisition of the lands. “I want to commend the chief executive of Monaghan VEC Martin O’Brien.  Martin has been deeply committed and dedicated to acquiring this wonderful asset for the VEC.  The VEC has my full support and I will continue to advocate on behalf of their excellent education provision for Monaghan,” concluded Deputy Conlon.
