![]() Independent Presidential candidate Seán Gallagher visited Monaghan on 18th and 29th July, August 23rd and October 15th during his Presidential campaign.
“During the last 14 weeks I have travelled the country meeting with people of all ages and from walks of life with a myriad of stories to tell. These are the stories that weave together the narrative of the nation. The wave of support shown to Trish and I by the people of my birthplace Monaghan has inspired me and strengthened my resolve to put ‘the positive’ at the very heart of my Presidential campaign.”
“In Monaghan I have seen the efforts of individuals and communities to unite and work together to create a fair and open society where all people have equality of opportunity and participation. I have seen everyday hardship alongside powerful displays of resilience and hope. I have seen many things to be proud of in Monaghan from the gatherings in Castleblaney for the Muckno Mania Festival, to the efforts of local traders in Monaghan town and the excitement around the annual Tydavenent show.”
“I believe the next President of Ireland should play a huge part in setting the tone and defining the key issues that will help to transform Ireland. As our economy has suffered, so too have our communities. The theme of next Presidency must be about getting Ireland back to work because local employment is what holds our communities together and more importantly restoring our sense of community pride and self-belief.”
“I want to change the very nature of our language away from the negative to the positive. I want to tackle the impact the trend of negativity has had on our national sense of self. The President will be the voice and the face of Ireland, representing not just who we are, but more importantly our ambition for what we want Ireland to become. I want to say special thanks to all my supporters and volunteers in Monaghan. Their support has meant so much as I was born in Devin Reilly Terrace in Monaghan town. I would urge everyone to come out and vote on Thursday 27th October 2011. This election is not about me; it is about all of us, putting our strengths to work together.”
