Smith appointed Chairman of Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party
Cavan/Monaghan TD Brendan Smith has been appointed Chairman of the Fianna Fáil Parliamentary Party.
The Fianna Fáil Party Leader Micheál Martin proposed Deputy Smith for this appointment and the proposal was unanimously adopted by Fianna Fáil TDs, Senators and MEPs.
The Cavan/Monaghan TD has served in Cabinet as Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and as Minister for Children.  Previously he was Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture and Food. He is now the Fianna Fáil Spokesperson on Education and Skills.
Prior to his appointment as Minister, Deputy Smith was Co-Chairman of the British Irish Inter-Parliamentary Party Body and he has been a TD since 1992 being elected at successive elections.
