14th October 2011, Dundalk, County Louth – The Poet’s Press today announced it will be hosting a book launch on Thursday the 27th October at 7:30pm in The Patrick Kavanagh Centre, Inniskeen, County Monaghan. The launch will reveal ‘Gold Rays’ written by Kathleen Maddy. ‘Gold Rays’ is the first book written by Kathleen, a local from Dundalk. The book consists of a collection of 100 poems that represent the poet’s personal journey of healing and spirituality. There will be guest speakers and entertainers there on the night.
Aidan Storey, angelic healer and spiritual therapist will launch the event. He will begin with a short meditation followed by a brief talk. There will be a special recording of poems by local singer/songwriter Stewart Agnew. A selection of poems from the book will be read out by the poet alongside Jennifer Sullivan and Gerard Maddy. Joe Quinn will give a talk on Patrick Kavanagh. Father Michael Dempsey, Redemptorist Church, Dundalk, will also be giving a talk. Harpist Jim Johnston will entertain guests on the Clàirseach, an exact replica of the Trinity College Harp in Dublin. There will be carved wooden angels to buy courtesy of Ronan Dolan, a friend of the poet. He can look at a piece of wood and see the angel within before he starts to carve. The poet believes the angels that Ronan carves will bless the night with their presence.
Rosaleen Kearney, Administrator, at The Patrick Kavanagh Centre feels this is a great opportunity to demonstrate a range of skills and professions all under the one roof. She said “it’s a fantastic event to be involved in here at the centre. We’re honoured to have a local poet promoting her book here.” ‘Gold Rays’ is dedicated to Gerry Maddy, the poet’s father. She credits him as being the inspiration behind her creativity in the poems. She believes her book is “a gift to be shared with all.” There will be book signings after the event. It promises to be a great night for all, everybody is welcome.
