![]() Independent Presidential hopeful Mary Davis is confident of receiving the formal backing of Monaghan County Council this coming Monday, September 12th 2011. The Council is meeting at 10.30am to formally propose Mary Davis for nomination.
Mary Davis has so far received the formal nomination from two Councils in the country - Galway County Council and Sligo County Council. A person needs the formal nomination of four (4) County or City Councils in order to become a Presidential candidate.
Mary Davis recently visited Castleblayney as a guest of the Blayney Blades Women's Group and Clones for the National Famine Commemoration 2011. There she met playwright Eugene McCabe and Brian MacDomhnaill (pictures attached).
"I will be extremely honoured if I am formally nominated by Monaghan County Council this Monday the 12th of September. I am extremely grateful to my proposer Cllr Pat Treanor and my seconder Cllr Paudge Connolly and all the Council members for their support and encouragement. I have had the pleasure of formally addressing the Council and informally meeting many Councillors over the last couple of months and I am delighted that my name has gone forward to be formally nominated this Monday," stated Mary Davis.
