![]() Cavan-Monaghan Fine Gael Deputy Heather Humphreys has praised the effort and commitment displayed by all of the local volunteers in ensuring that this year’s Tydavnet Show was a success.
“I was delighted to be in attendance at the Tydavnet Show on Saturday last along with my Government colleague, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Mr Michael Ring TD. This year marked the 60th anniversary of the Tydavnet Show and it has to be said that it is a credit to all involved that after such a long period of time, the show continues to go from strength to strength.
“Even after 60 years, the Tydavnet show still manages to capture the imagination of young and old in County Monaghan and further afield. 2011 is said to be the year of the volunteer and that is certainly a concept that the local organisers seem to have taken literally. I would like to pay tribute to the organising committee who have invested a huge amount of effort over the last few months to ensure that this year’s show was a truly memorable occasion for all involved. These people have given up their time on a completely voluntary basis for the benefit of their local community. This strong sense of community and togetherness has obviously passed through the generations and has led to the huge success which the Tydavnet show has been built into over the years.
“In the livestock competitions at this years show, there was a wide range of classes for cattle, sheep, horses and ponies and it must be said that the animals on show were first class quality and were a credit to their owners.
“While the traditional elements of the show remain strong, it was great to see a number of new attractions for the younger audience. The photography competitions along with the various novelty events, music and entertainment ensured that this was an enjoyable day for all the family. The butter churning competition was also a highlight on the day and provided great entertainment for the spectators. Again, credit must go to the local organisers for coming up with such a wide range of attractions and for ensuring that there was something for everybody to enjoy on the day.
“The Tydavnet show is a local event organised by local people. The success of the show over the years would not have been possible without significant help and support from local businesses, with that in mind, it is only right to acknowledge the generous support of Monaghan Co-op, Lakeland Dairies and Corby Rock Mill along with all of the other local sponsors.
“As Minister Ring observed, Monaghan has a proud tradition of excellence in farming and food production. It is great to be able to showcase these attributes on a wider scale and the Tydavnet show represents the perfect platform by which to do this and long may this continue into the future.
