Pride of Place Judges visit Co. Monaghan
The communities of  Clones, Glaslough and Inniskeen are hoping to make a big impression this week on the judges of the All-Ireland competition, Pride of Place, as judging takes place of this year’s finalists. Pride of Place is organised by Co-Operation Ireland, and is open to all Local Authorities, who nominate communities who they feel exemplify the spirit of ‘Pride of Place’. Monaghan County Council have put forward the communities of Clones (small towns category) and Glaslough (villages category), and the community-driven Patrick Kavanagh Country (community-led tourism initiative) to represent Co. Monaghan in this year’s competition, which will conclude with a gala awards ceremony in November.
Judging is already underway around the country, and this week it is Co. Monaghan’s turn under the spotlight. The judges will begin their visit on Wednesday afternoon in South Monaghan, where they will be shown around Patrick Kavanagh Country, viewing the work the community has achieved in highlighting places immortalised by the poet, and visiting some of the private sector initiatives which have been spawned on the back of the community’s work. They will spend Thursday morning in Glaslough, and will move on to Clones in the afternoon.
All are welcome to come out and meet the judges, and to tell them why these three entrants deserve to win a ‘Pride of Place’ award.
