THIS SATURDAY 20th. August 2011
![]() Being the THIRD SATURDAY IN AUGUST all roads will lead once again to the Annual Tydavnet Show this Saturday 20th. August, where the preparations are being finalised for this premier regional event.
Great anticipation is building throughout the rural hinterland for the events of this special Diamond 60th. Show, which is taking place this Saturday at the well-appointed Showgrounds at Drumshevra, Scotstown just five miles north-west of Monaghan Town.
A programme of classes and competitions to whet the appetite of exhibitors and spectators alike, showcasing a number of contests of regional and national stature, has been put together by the organisers.
Show President Catherine O’ Donoghue expressed her satisfaction this week that the Show Committee had kept abreast of developments in agricultural and rural concerns, developing new classes and adapting existing ones to better present the wealth of quality livestock and produce which will be on view on the day.
“There really will be something for everyone among the exhibits,” she stated.
Newly elected Show Chairman Peggy Treanor reiterated the Show Committee’s gratitude for the ongoing financial support from sponsors and advertisers in these challenging times, and the vital support generated through the attendance of the public. Huge efforts have been made by all members of the show committee to make sure the 60th. show will be one to remember. She praised all those who work so hard from one show to another, year in year out.
She expressed particular appreciation of the efforts made by exhibitors to enter their stock and produce at the Show.
“Indeed, the continuance of agricultural shows like Tydavnet depends on the support of exhibitors and entries,” Peggy stated. “Entries are vital to the future of the show, and are an encouragement to all the volunteers involved in its organisation.”
A tribute to the ongoing high standard of entries and organisation at Tydavnet is the award to this year’s show of five All-Ireland Championship Qualifiers by the Irish Shows Association, together with the hosting of regional and inter-show events.
Over one hundred silver cups and trophies will be awarded at Tydavnet Show this year, including the premier award of The President’s Cup for the highest points across all sections. Together with the show prizefund of over €20,000, a further €15,000 in prizes will be on offer in national and regional competitions.
