![]() Former FF TD Margaret Conlon has expressed her delight that the contracts for the new Educational Complex have been signed.
“It is the achievement that I am most proud of in my political career to date. I worked very closely with Martin O’Brien the CEO of Monaghan VEC to secure this complex for Monaghan.”
“Immediately after the announcement of the closure of the Army Barracks steps were taken to ensure that this site would not be lost to the town and the county. Both former Ministers Willie O’Dea and Batt O’Keeffe were very receptive to the idea of an Educational Complex and made the necessary financial commitment to ensure its delivery.”
“At that time many were fearful that it would not get the green light and would be a white elephant but when the former Taoiseach Brian Cowen came to Monaghan in Nov 2009 to make the announcement that it was to proceed under the auspices of the VEC and the stewardship of Martin O’ Brien the CEO that there was a realisation that this would become a reality. The CEO gave a firm commitment on that day that the project would be delivered on time and within budget.”
“ I want to commend the work of the CEO and the Board of Monaghan VEC on their efforts in ensuring that all the preparatory work and planning was completed to allow the project proceed to construction.”
“An investment of €37m is a huge boost to the county in revenue terms but also for the 500+ jobs that it will create. At a time when there is so much negativity it is wonderful to have a positive news story. This project is a flagship project for the rest of the country Monaghan VEC is leading the way and will be held up as a shining example to every other VEC in the country”.
