Man In Court Over Carrickmacross Accident

A man appeared in court in Dundalk District Court at 11am this morning charged in connection with a fatal collision .

A 23-year-old cyclist died on Tuesday when he was struck by a vehicle on the N2 Dublin to Derry road between Carrickmacross and Castleblaney at about 10.15pm.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Gardaí said the driver of the vehicle that struck the cyclist failed to stop after the crash.

A 37-year-old man was arrested yesterday in Carrickmacross in connection with the incident. He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

.Zigmantas Gridzuiska, with an address at 30a Ardross Avenue in Carrickmacross, who is originally from Lithuania, was charged at Dundalk District Court under section 106 of the road traffic act.

He was released on bail of 500 euro, to appear in court in Carrickmacross on Wed 28th September.

He was also told to surrender his passport and to sign on at Carrickmacross Garda station three days per week.
